Ford preparing 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 for the all-new 2015 F-150 No ratings yet.

Rumors about the next-generation 2015 Ford F-150 continues to spread ahead of its official debut at the 2014 Detroit Motor Show, which will be opened to the public audience on Saturday, January 18. The all-new F-150 will not only get a very lightweight aluminum material, but the new pickup will also be equipped with a new engine when the new models on display at the NAIAS.

The Dearborn-based automaker was already preparing an all-new 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 engine with a twin-turbocharged for the next-gen F-150. According to reports, the new 2.7L EcoBoost dubbed “Nano” which will utilize asymmetrical turbos and it’s not the same as the 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 engine.

The report said, asymmetrical turbos could deliver more power and better fuel efficiency compared to the current base engine. Speaking of power and torque, the new 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 is claimed to deliver up to 320 horsepower and 370 lb-ft of torque. Of course, it’s better than the current 3.7L V6 engine.

For comparison, a 3.7-liter Ti-VCT V6 engine on the base 2014 Ford F-150 can only produce 302 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 278 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 rpm. So the new 2.7L EcoBoost offers an extra 18 HP and 92 lb-ft more than the current 3.7L V6 engine.

However, Autoblog says that the new EcoBoost engine will not be available as a base engine in the 2015 F-150. Instead, Ford will keep the 3.7L V6 as the base engine in the next F-150, while the new 2.7L EcoBoost will fill the slot just above the base 3.7-liter engine. But don’t worry, the Blue Oval Company will still retain the 3.5-liter V6 EcoBoost on the new F-150 with 365 HP and 420 lb-ft of torque.

The all-new Ford F-150 will take a many design cues from last year’s Atlas Concept, which was officially introduced at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show. The upcoming F-150 models will get some important upgrades and utilize a very lightweight aluminum material which is expected to reduce its weight significantly – about 700 lbs.

Update: 2015 Ford F-150 Release Date is targeted for summer 2014

As for the release schedule, the Dearborn automaker so far hasn’t officially revealed the release date for the upcoming F-150. However, according to a recent report, the 2015 Ford F-150 will most likely be launched in the North American market in summer 2014. Nevertheless, we should wait for more information from Ford at the Detroit Motor Show in the next three weeks.
