The Japanese automaker Subaru is currently preparing for the 2020 Outback wagon which will reportedly be officially revealed at the 2019 New York Auto Show this week. The upcoming Outback will be mostly based on the Subaru Legacy sedan that was recently introduced to the public, and it will definitely get a redesign on its exterior design.
It’s Mostly Based on Legacy Sedan with Fresh Redesign
Ahead of its official debut this week, Subaru has also launched a teaser image that shows the design direction of the 2020 Outback. The teaser image shows that the new all-wheel-drive wagon has adopted black plastic body cladding, green paint, new front fenders and redesigned alloy wheels. However, there may be nothing very special for the 2020 Subaru Outback specification, given that the Outback and Legacy sedans always share the same basic platform and powertrain.
Like the new Legacy sedan, the redesigned Outback will move using the same new Subaru global platform. It promises improved rigidity, better handling, and other enhancements. Of course, this is one of the biggest changes to this new wagon. Furthermore, the turbocharged version called Outback XT is also expected to return to replace the Legacy 3.6R six-cylinder engine, which is quite old.
2020 Subaru Outback Specs
The redesigned 2020 Subaru Outback XT will be powered by a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine which is expected to produce 260 horsepower. While the base powertrain is likely to rely on a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine rated at 182 HP. However, all trim options will be available with a standard all-wheel drive and continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT).
Inside the interior, the new Outback will share the same multimedia system as the new Legacy sedan, including a new 11.6-inch large touchscreen with a vertically oriented layout and Subaru’s EyeSight bundle which is expected to be a standard active-safety feature. In addition, the 2020 Outback wagon also promises more cargo space, additional ground clearance, and extra body cladding.
2020 Subaru Outback Release Date
The release date and on-sale-date for the 2020 Subaru Outback has been confirmed by a Subaru representative, Dominick Infante. The redesigned Outback wagon will go on sale at U.S. dealers this fall or around the end of this year, certainly after the car made its official debut at the New York Auto Show on April 17, 2019.
