General Motors is rumored to be reviving the Chevy Trailblazer as a 2020 model years. The upcoming three-door Trailblazer SUV is set to replace the current generation Chevrolet Trax on the U.S. market. According to the recent report, the full-production version of the 2020 Chevrolet Trailblazer was officially introduced at the 2019 Auto Shanghai before the car will be sold on the Chinese market for the first time.
The Detroit-based automaker has revealed that the 2020 Chevy Trailblazer will have its own design character with bold bodylines look, smooth rooflines, and a very sleek design. That means this new mid-size three-door crossover will be a completely new vehicle, not fully based on the 2019 Chevrolet Blazer. Although there are many rumors suggesting that all-new Chevrolet Trailblazer will share the same platform as the mini Blazer, including in terms of design, too.
Well, speaking of its design style, the 2020 Trailblazer crossover reportedly has a black A-pillar and a long hood design with a Chevy’s signature dual-port grille on the front end of the car. The new mid-size SUV is also equipped with a 17-inch black alloy wheels, a lower facia and the new LED daytime running lamps featuring a Chevy’s accent lighting strip.
The 2020 Chevy Trailblazer will be based on the new GM VSS-F platform and will be sold as a global model throughout the world, including to replace the Chevrolet Trax at the North American market. Other rumors suggest that the new Trailblazer will be very similar to the Chevrolet FNR-CarryAll Concept which was officially introduced at the Guangzhou Motor Show last year.
The FNR-CarryAll Concept adopts the design style cues from the current Chevy Blazer with six-seats available inside its cabin. Apart from that, the 2020 Chevrolet Trailblazer will enter the production line officially at the Cadillac SAIC-GM Jinqiao assembly plant in Shanghai, China. The upcoming Trailblazer will also join in the all-new Chevy Tracker lineup based on the GEM platform (Global Emerging Markets architecture).
The secret and trusted SAIC-GM document revealed that the 2020 Trailblazer has been developed under the same “C1UC” vehicle program code as the Chevy Blazer. So the C1 architecture platform that currently underpins the Cadillac XT5 is also likely to be used in the new Trailblazer. Under its hood, the 2020 Chevy Trailblazer will most likely be available in two powertrain options when the car is released to the market, including a 3.6-liter V6 engine rated at 305 horsepower and a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine capable of producing 240 horsepower.
While the current generation Chevy Blazers has been sold in the United States in two engine options that include V6 units and 2.5-liter engines rated at 193 horsepower. Speaking of the release date, the 2020 Chevy Trailblazer is scheduled to be officially released for the Chinese market early next year and it will likely arrive in the American continent at the end of 2020 as the 2021 model years.
