2018 Range Rover Sport Release Date, Price and Changes

Land Rover is working hard and ready to bring the 2018 Range Rover Sport at the North American market in the near future. As a third-generation model, the new Range Rover Sport will fill the mid-size luxury SUV segment and is targeted to compete with some of its competitors such as the BMW X6, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Porsche Cayenne and Mercedes-Benz M Class. The 2018 model year is claimed will bring some changes both from the interior, exterior and engine specifications. As we know that the second generation Range Rover Sport is quite old, considering it was first introduced at the 2013 New York Auto Show. However, we don’t know for sure whether the new model will get a completely redesign or just a refresher.

The prototype version of the 2018 Land Rover Range Rover Sport has often been caught while undergoing test mule in recent months. The new SUV looks to bring refreshment on its exterior design, including a new bumper design, revised air intake, and an updated grille. Range Rover is unrivaled in the luxury SUV segment in recent years. But now demand for SUVs soared in the market that made some of its competitors entering the luxury SUV segment such as Mercedes-Maybach, Bentley, Rolls-Royce and Aston Martin. Nevertheless, the current Range Rover is still quite difficult to beat by its competitors in the luxury SUV segment and it’s thanks to the hard work of Land Rover who continues to refresh this SUV.

The good news is that the British automaker will also provide an update for the high-performance 2018 Range Rover Sport SVR version. The new flagship model will reportedly be launched simultaneously with the new Range Rover Sport, given that both models will get mid-cycle refreshment. Based on spy shots photos, the new Range Rover Sport SVR will still retain its basic design, although we can see the new air intake design on the front bumper. This makes us speculate that Land Rover will install a supercharged 5.0-liter V8 engine in the 2018 Range Rover Sport SVR. This is the same engine that can be found on the 2017 Jaguar F-Type SVR but with different power outputs, 575 horsepower for the F-Type SVR and 550 horsepower for the Range Rover Sport SVR.

Inside the cabin, the flagship SRV variant will get some updates like the new twin-screen infotainment system and electronic driver assist. While the 2018 Range Rover Velar will integrate the latest multimedia system with two 10-inch touchscreen displays. Unfortunately there’s no interior detail that we can disclose at this time, considering the information is still kept secret by the automaker. As for the exterior changes, the refreshed Range Rover will be equipped with a new front bumper, new grille design and a new wheel pattern that we have not previously found on the previous generation models.

Land Rover will also offer the latest plug-in hybrid version with a four-cylinder gasoline engine on the 2018 Range Rover Sport. As you know that the current Range Rover and Range Rover Sport already offers a diesel-electric hybrid version in several countries. This technology was first introduced on the 2015 Range Rover Sport Concept_e PHEV, which is powered by an electric motor with lithium-ion battery installed between the engine and gearbox.
