The Dearborn automaker has finally provided some changes and a mechanical upgrade to the high-performance 2018 Ford Focus RS. The new model will be sold on a limited basis and only 1500 units available for the United States and Canada. Most upgrades are given to the mechanical sector and its design style, as well as the use of Limited-Slip Differential (LSD mechanical) on its front axle which is expected to improve cornering performance and reduce spin symptoms on wheels. The LSD also limits the torque delivered to the front wheels when the slip symptoms are detected, which can ultimately increase the tire grip level and stability when cornering.
The decision to use LSD mechanical in the new Focus RS was picked up after Ford got online feedback from its enthusiasts, where most buyers wanted the LSD on the new Focus RS. Ford followed Focus’s enthusiastic conversation on blogs, forums and Facebook groups, which ultimately helped inspire the 2018 Focus RS. The Limited-slip differential is supplied by Quaife Engineering and is developed exclusively by the global Ford Performance team for the 2018 Focus RS Limited Edition. It not only includes active torque vectoring but also performance tuning on its all-wheel drive system. In addition, LSD can also improve braking ability. Limited-slip differential is intelligently integrated with an all-wheel drive system that divides the torque between the front and rear axles.
