Ford allegedly had plans to revive the Bronco after his long sleep since the production version was discontinued in mid-1996. Let’s look at the Bronco history to refresh our memories, respectively. The Ford Bronco has been introduced for the first time in 1966 in the form of a two-door sport utility vehicle with a front engine layout to beat its main rivals in the small compact SUV segment, including Jeep CJ-5 and International Harvester Scout.

Thirty years later, Ford has decided to stop production of the legendary Bronco SUVs in mid-1996 due to market trends prefer four-door passenger vehicle at that time. And to answer the market demand, the Dearborn automaker decided to launch the Ford Expedition in the same year to replace the Bronco. The first-generation Expedition targeted to compete in the full-size SUV segment with some of its rivals, including the Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban and GMC Yukon.

Eight years later, the Blue Oval Company showcased the new Bronco concept for the first time at the 2004 Detroit Auto Show. The Ford Bronco concept carries a 2.0-liter intercooled four-cylinder turbodiesel engine mated to an Intelligent 4WD system and six-speed PowerShift manual transmission. The 2.0L turbodiesel engine capable of developing 128 horsepower at 4,000 rpm and 244 lb-ft of torque at 1,800 rpm. The Bronco concept featuring short wheelbase, round headlamps and box-like roofline.

Unfortunately, Ford was never even brought the Bronco production version to the dealership floor after its concept version introduced in Detroit eight years ago. Instead, Ford decided to launch the third-generation 2013 Escape compact crossover at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show and Bronco project was canceled, so it’s impossible to see the Bronco concept entered the production line at that time.

Now, we’ve entered the new year and there is good news for Broncos fans, although most of the news is still a rumor. Some rumors indicate that the sixth-generation 2018 Ford Bronco is ready to make its first appearance later this year. However, as you all know, there’s no official confirmation from Ford so far, although many people hoping to see the latest Bronco concept at the Detroit Motor Show next month.

Talking about engines lineup, the all-new 2018 Ford Bronco will allegedly bring three different engine options when it launched in the U.S. market (one diesel and two gasoline), complete with a six-speed manual and automatic transmission. Two of the three engines will most likely be borrowed from the current Ford F-150. The first option, the sixth-gen Bronco is expected to come with a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 EcoBoost engine capable of developing up to 365 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and 420 lb-ft of torque at 2,500 rpm.

Next, the 2018 Bronco may be powered by a 5.0-liter V8 engine with a maximum output up to 360 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 380 lb-ft of torque at 4,250 rpm. Both engines above are basically taken from the F-150 full-size pickup and all engines will reportedly come with four-wheel drive setup. Meanwhile, a 4.5-liter diesel engine is expected to be available in the future to complete the Bronco engine lineup, but it certainly will depend on market demand.

Furthermore, the upcoming Bronco models will reportedly share the same platform as the Ford Explorer and Ranger. Major changes are expected to come both in terms of its exterior and interior design, although some reports suggest that the sixth-generation Bronco will have a similar design cues to its concept version. This means that the Broncos will not be completely redesigned and there are no significant updates in terms of design.

2018 Ford Bronco Release Date is supposedly scheduled for later this year

We know there’s no accurate information, even information coming officially from Ford. However, some reports indicate that the 2018 Ford Bronco is likely to be launched in the North American market later this year or in the second half of next year. As for the price tag, we predict the starting price will be around $29,000.

Ford still silent, I really wonder why they don’t make a production version for the Bronco.

  2. Avatar Steffen says:

Ford should not change its Bronco design, because the design concept still looks good, I love it.

  3. Avatar ARAY says:

WHY DON’T THEY LET ME BE THE GUINEA PIG, AND TEST IT OUT FOR THEM….I’M GAME….

  4. Avatar Tyler Durden says:

Rangers and Explorers haven’t been on the same platform for years…

  5. Avatar JACK says:

I don’t expect the next Bronco should use the same platform as the Ranger or Explorer, because both models use separate platforms for years.

  6. Avatar Brad says:

First rangers have been out of production since 2011 and second rangers haven’t shared the same platform with the explorer since the 90’s.

    • Avatar Rade says:

Think again… Rangers are not for sale in the US. They are still in production and sold outside the US. Look them up they look like a mini F-250

  7. Avatar Edward says:

Sounds good if Bronco produced again as a new-gen off-road vehicles for those mud lovers or dirty areas. :D LOL… But whether it will be sold in Europe as well?

  8. Avatar Joe says:

Saw this thing at the Cleveland Auto Show back in ’11…. was awestruck they would even consider this as a plausible design (cosmetically), as it does a great disservice to the lineage. This thing will flop if they put out that design, ugly as sin. The only saving grace is the possibility of that diesel.

  9. Avatar Slish says:

PLEASE PLEASE BRING OUT THIS BRONCO!! I ALREADY HAVE SO MANY PEOPLE INTERESTED AND READY TO BUY…
I REALLY HOPE IT DOES COME OUT. I THINK IT WILL EB A HUGE HIT.

  10. Avatar KimmieLayne says:

I had a ’77 till about 8 years ago. Sold it and regret every penny of it. Trying to find it again to get it back. This would soften the pain of the loss of my first one. Almost 40 years old and still on the road. You don’t get better than that.

  11. Avatar Player2 says:

I have 2 Broncos now an 89 that I take the top off in the summer in Colorado. and a 95 that I leave the top on. I enjoy them both. The 89 is awesome up in the mountains with its low gears its great for 4 wheeling. The 95 is comfortable for road trips and an all around Great vehicle.

  15. Avatar Larry says:

I WILL BUY this new Bronco!!!!!!!!!! I WILL!!!!!!!!!!! Can’t stress that enough!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  16. Avatar Vito says:

I am ready to purchase this today. I will trade in my FJ Cruiser, which was awesome but have always loved the early 70’s Ford Bronco! AND, do not hesitate to put out aftermarket products for lift kits etc.!!!! THANKS FORD, PLEASE DON’T DISAPPOINT!!!!

  17. Avatar Julie says:

Cashiers check in hand ready to go…..
All I need now is this bronco
Ford would be asinine not to produce this!!!

  18. Jorge Santana Jorge Santana says:

Hi everyone, thank you so much for commenting here. :) Don’t forget you can send your vote in the poll here, https://www.thenextcars.com/poll-should-ford-bring-back-bronco_2337.html Let’s hope, hopefully Ford will revive the Bronco in the future. ;)

  19. Avatar Jeremiah says:

I’m ready I’ll pre order mine. I have a 1978 restored to new condition and the 2015 would look good next to it. don’t get scared FORD

  20. Avatar Ray Bonnette says:

Yes, if you need ideas for this, just let me know!
Also, I’d be more then happy to test it for you on my Rough Terrain driveway and around this mountainous area I live in. Four doors would be nice!!! I am a Big Guy, and my sons are also big!!,, tall, kind of guys! And make it Affordable !!,,

  21. Avatar joe says:

I agree bring this new beast to market and watch all jeep and dodge lovers diminish and fade away haha, this bronco looks badass and probably performs better than it looks, I hope ford don’t bow out to jeep!

  22. Avatar Cindy says:

Growing up I couldn’t wait to purchase my ow
n Bronco. I have a 1989 that I would love to restore and think it’s great they may start production again.

  23. Avatar Robert E. Hendren says:

What the HELL are you waiting for!!! I drive a 2012 Raptor waiting on FORD to grow a pair come on build it!!!

  24. Avatar Paul says:

I just can’t get on board with this design. It looks like a robot. Why don’t they just come out with the original designed body with upgraded creature comforts like power steering, windows, tilt, cruise, air, etc… I don’t get it. If the wheel aint broke you don’t fix it! Upgrade the suspension, strengthen the axles… make a truck for what people are building them for and they’ll sell like girl scout cookies!

  25. Avatar Erika says:

    I love this!

  26. Avatar Kurt Ballard says:

ATTENTION FORD MOTOR COMPANY.. Ballard here, if you build it, we will come.. Legendary 4x4s, the early Broncos would climb a tree.. I have so many down in the trenches stories 4 wheeling in a 72 Bronco, I could go on for weeks.. If you need a test driver, send me one, no place on earth can put a 4×4 to the test like Utah, especially with myself at the helm.. A couple requests, and they are a must.. The transfer case needs to be a 4-speed, like in the old days.. 2 high, 2 LOW, 4 high, 4 low.. Need that 2 low for drag racing in the mud, and on pavement.. Posi front and rear, with manual twist in hubs.. The interior, basic no frills, waterproof, no carpet, spray it out with a garden hose.. Back to the basics, no cupcake grocery getter.. Brand new, old school.. Total He man woman haters club truck, no girlz allowed.. Top needs to come off, spare tire and Jerry can factory attached to the tailgate, handyman jack fastened above the rear wheel well inside the cab.. I would like to see a stripped down version all together, the only amenities, a heater, AM/FM radio and a CB.. I have cash in hand.. Get er done.. Gun rack affixed to the top of the cab also..

  27. Avatar FreddyBear says:

I’d trade my Charger in for this Bronco!

  28. Avatar Aaron says:

Uh one question, how does the 3.5 liter v6 engine produce more horse power and torque then the 5.0 liter v8? Is that a typo, they must have it backwards right. If not why would anyone buy the v8 version, prolly uses more gas on mileage too.

    • Jorge Santana Jorge Santana says:

That’s because Ford’s 3.5-liter V6 engine carries an EcoBoost technology. So I’m not so surprised if the 3.5L V6 EcoBoost become more powerful but still fuel-efficient than the old 5.0-liter V8 engine. At least that’s what I know so far. ;)

    • Avatar Rade says:

Twin Turbo chargers… Not a typo

  29. Avatar Vette says:

I like that, please Ford bring back the Bronco

  30. Avatar erek says:

the explorer switched to IFS in 1995 and the ranger did in 1998. if you ask me the new bronco needs to ether have the TTB or solid front axle they shouldnt go to the newer IFS that is currently being used.

  31. Avatar Jack Fitz says:

If this concept hits the dealerships, I’d be breaking down the doors to buy one!! New technology vs old styling. Had a 1973 Bronco Ranger that I still get sick, thinking about when I sold it! I’ve had later models, but the originals were the coolest. You can’t deny that with what the originals are selling for now. Please Ford!!

  32. Avatar Jacob says:

It looks like a newer model and older model G-Wagen, Jeep, and, Hummer had a baby. Its an interesting Vehicle but I’m more of a Chevy person.

  33. Avatar chris says:

I just bought a 2014 Toyota Tacoma. I would sell in a heart beat for the retro design bronco!

  34. Avatar Nick says:

The new Bronco really looks very retro-cool, but I doubt that we will see it soon. All articles about new Bronco are rumors, because Ford didn’t give us any official information about it.

  35. Avatar Mike Lauer says:

I was missing my first generation Bronco, found this site while shopping for a used Bronco. I live on a ranch in south Texas and have been a Ford man from birth. Would like to see one with 5.0, manual transmission and transfer case. Solid front axle may be asking too much, but keep it simple. Roll your own windows and all. My company truck was an amazing Raptor, and it was just too big for my needs. Now the XLT is ready for replacement soon enough, so bring it on!!!!!

  36. Avatar tyler says:

That thing is ugly as shit I have a 1996 bronco

  37. Avatar brad says:

I agree with Ballard mostly. It should be, essentially, modeled after today’s Jeep Wrangler: simple but with some nice amenities, coil sold axles, a real, manual transfer case, fully removable hard top, spare and Jerry can on rear, hi lift jack would be a bonus, a slew of factory offered upgrade options life lift kits and bumpers that are all factory warrantied and supported, electric lockers and sway bar disconnects, and of course manual and auto trannies. Lastly, a DIESEL ENGINE! I will prepay for one as soon as it’s released!

  38. Avatar Carla says:

My first vehicle was a 1976 blue bronco with white stripes. I would buy another one in a heart beat….even if it’s a 2015!!!!!

  39. Avatar roy broncokid says:

please bring it on will buy the first one to hit s.c.

  40. Avatar john says:

    Love this Car

  41. Avatar doug says:

I will buy the concept so long as it runs and drives love the look and hope to see them in person sooner rater than later

  42. Avatar monte says:

I love the box top, and the deisel with the stick shift. wow!!! were do I sign up for the first one

  43. Avatar jactor says:

    wow this new cars 2015..

  44. Avatar Wayne Fenwick says:

FU Jeep, if Ford does this right, we won’t need your small pickup that we have been begging you to build.

  45. Avatar Thomas says:

I HAVE A 94 BRONCO XLT WITH ONLY 82K ORIGINAL MILES ON IT…
I’LL. NEVER GET RID of IT! LOVE IT!!!

  46. Avatar Didd says:

Terrible..at least the wife is happy, im not upping everything up for sale to buy it. Damn it ford

  47. Avatar Tim says:

Concept is awesome size of the first Gen with all the new tech I would sell my other three vehicles just to get my hands on one and love the idea of a diesel

  48. Avatar jon says:

well i read today that it will be launched next year but a totally different design.

  49. Avatar Steve Childs says:

Ford make me a real bronco on f150 frame not a bronco 2 I want it v8 powered so I can tow with it

  50. Avatar Andrew says:

Please, NO! This concept must be trashed. It looks like an H2 mated with Land Rover Defender. It needs Ford Heritage mixed with new American ingenuity, like this one

  51. Avatar Jay hobbs says:

All I know is the new Ford Bronco the top better come off I think a lot of people will be disappointed

  52. Avatar Brian says:

I’m sorry to bring doubt to anyone and everyone, but there is not really a market for this vehicle. Even though personally I would love them to come out with a new one as well since I drive a 95′ model myself. Lets per say they do come out with it now they are taking a risk and spending money on building a new manufacturing vehicle that only 1 out possibly 500 people will even think about getting not to mention advertising the vehicle as well and the economy as well sadly.

  53. Avatar Justin says:

There is a few pictures of the new bronco floating around with the killer ford atlas front end, now that is an amazing looking vehicle!4 doors with a killer diesel, lift , rims and tires. I think I just organizmd on my laptop. An excursion with a badass front end look, I love it!!! 2 door or 4 door I don’t care, just built it and they will cum. I want!!
Build a 6.7 liter diesel option in that hot rod. Go ford!!

  54. Avatar brian says:

I would buy the newer concept with the bulky front end but only if the top came off. I love my full size both 89, and 92. If I had a new one I’d be hesitant to take it where I take my full sized but it is a Ford so it will make it. Hurry up and get it in production! Life’s to short to not drive Ford.

  55. Avatar Bill says:

If the rumor was to put a 4.5 diesel in the new bronco, why can’t they put it in the f150?

  56. Avatar Charles says:

I have a Toyota Tacoma that I love. But for the retro design Bronco, I would trade it in. Ford please build it and stick to the retro design.

  57. Avatar Alee says:

Heck yea! Leave the bronco looking like a bronco! It’s an awesome throw back, I will own one!

  58. Avatar Joanne says:

This design is amazing. Please please I hope they are serious about making it. I don’t want anything else. What a kick ass suv.

  59. Avatar Will says:

Wow…Ford is bringing back the International Scout II from Harvester. Slightly modified also. They should call it the Scout III.

  60. Avatar Kenny says:

You ask need to bring back the 90s ford rangers and the Broncos nothing newer than 90s after that there trash do come back with the 90 ranger 4.0l 5 speed and the Broncos with the 302 v8 and evening will be fine I use to love ford than you cam out with I’m gay cars I drive a,chevy now lol explain that one….

  61. Avatar Leonard Urban says:

I am and have always been a Ford lover and Ford has always come forth with a model that could meet my needs and desires. Currently my wife and I drive a 2011 Explorer and the famous 2011 Ford Ranger. Here it is 2014 and I am waiting on the Bronco so I can visit my local Ford Dealer in SM Kansas and give them money for this most ideal vehicle. The Bronco has everything I want and need Please hurry as I will turn 70 next year and need this vehicle to make me feel young again

  62. Avatar Norm says:

Just take my money and give me a diesel Bronco!!! Been a long time since I was so stocked about a new car or truck. I hope they don’t screw it up.

  63. Avatar Fiona says:

Front is cool. Back is ugly. Old ones are way better.

  64. Avatar Brian says:

I would buy this tomorrow. Minus the mustard coloured material inside if door

  65. Avatar Betty says:

If you still think that the Bronco is going to be released, please check this article out. It may not be coming out at all.

  66. Avatar Nisaa says:

I dont like car berooo :D

  67. Avatar Mazda6 says:

When will bronco will come? I was tired of waiting. :(

  68. Avatar Ed says:

My first car was a ford Fairmont 1978. I brought my son a 1988 Bronco 11 from Colorado in cherry shape. If your a older Ford Fan that is Cool as Heck, Or Bad A%#. I would most definitely buy one

  69. Avatar Ben Williams says:

I have been the proud and original owner of a 95 XLT 5 litre since new

  70. Avatar JAMES S says:

THE ABOVE VEHICLE IS OK. HOWEVER THE BRONCO WAS A BAD A$$ VEHICLE JUST LIKE THE K5 BLAZER. OH YES, FORD BRING BACK THE BRONCO THIS IS WHAT PEOPLE WANT. EVERY VEHICLE OUT THERE WHEATHER IT’S AN SUV OR A SEDAN IT ALL LOOKS THE SAME. FORD PLEASE THE PEOPLE FROM THE BRONX N.Y. ARE ASKING AS WELL BRING IT BACK!! BRONCO BABY!!

  71. Avatar Webruce says:

The pictured Bronco has cues for the original body style. That is great. I have also seen pictures of a current F-150 looking Bronco. I like them both.
I currently own a 1973 Gran Torino Sport. Over the years my family has owned many Fords. 1963, 1966, Fairlane Wagons, 1966 F-100 Pickup, 1976 Fairmont Futura, 1984, 1996 Rangers, 1979 Grenada, 1965 Falcon. 1976 Mustang II Cobra II, (miss it).

  72. Avatar Bob HOPE says:

Yeah this is not yo mamas bronco. The upgrades are pretty but this is not the bronco I fell in love with. And if you can look at this the way you look at the original then you aren’t even looking. It looks like a boxy Jeep or Mercedes, nothing like the original. All the new throwbacks have a little of the original left in them. Plus, and a big plus, where the hell is the cap?!?! It’s an expedition if it doesn’t have the removable top. And dammit ford grow a set and drop a diesel in it, you did it for the expedition.

  73. Avatar Robert says:

Still waiting for the new 2017 Ford Bronco and have not received and info on it. Is there even a 2017 Bronco? And if there is, where can I find one and get a price?
Ford, people would be driving the Bronco if they were on lots.

    Thanks Robert

  74. Avatar kevin says:

I have told my wife if ford were to produce this version .i would sell my other cars and buy this model .and i also stress this ….I WOULD…..i owned a 71 bronco with a 4 inch body lift 33 inch tires .it had the original 302/3 on the tree .and i had it 3 years . was a work in progress .but i had to sell it .regretting it badly .

  75. Avatar Kirk says:

    I want to see one

  76. Avatar DCbound says:

This needs to be the new Bronco and not that butt ugly concept. It’s nasty, and not in the good way.

  77. Avatar Amy says:

I had a boyfriend who promised to buy me one of these as soon as they went into production. I had bookmarked this page and stumbled upon it just now while doing some PC cleanup.

Sadly I think the new Bronco, like the boyfriend, just wasn’t meant to be. Both are now just a dream…

  78. Avatar James F Zediker says:

    Jim Zediker
I sold my Bronco back in 1999 when I was building my house. I always wished I had never sold it! I would do anything to buy my Bronco back almost at any cost. But this new design is really nice. Build it and I will be the first to buy it. But hurry-up and get it out there, because I am now 76 and I want to drive it for a few years.
