2018 BMW X5 Release Date, Changes and Price

As a mid-size luxury crossover, the BMW X5 has not gotten enough changes in terms of design and engine specs. The third-generation model has been launched in 2013 as a 2014 model year with a code name BMW F15; it’s a Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV). However, the third-generation BMW X5 still shares the same basics as the second generation X5 introduced in 2007, including using the same chassis and wheelbase. Now the German automaker has been preparing the next-gen 2018 BMW X5 which is claimed to be very different from its predecessor. A recent report also revealed that the new model would get a redesign with new, more dynamic look.

The 2018 BMW X5 and the new X5 M crossover has recently been caught undergoing testing on public roads with heavy camouflage. Even on the Nürburgring circuit, this new model has been tested with production-spec bodywork and is powered by a powerful twin-turbocharged V8 engine that is predicted to deliver 600 bhp. Also in terms of size, the latest generation model will likely have a larger size that will eventually increase the size of its interior space. The new SAV has a distinctive feature on the front end that features shark nose hood and new grille.

2018 BMW X5 Changes and Specs

According to Autocar, the next-gen X5 crossover will be built on the CLAR platform (cluster architecture) which is the same platform that can be found in the current BMW 7 Series. This is a BMW modular platform introduced for the first time in the 2016 BMW 7-Series and 2017 5-Series sedan. In addition, the CLAR platform should first be used by the 2018 BMW X3 crossover, so the new X5 will follow afterwards. This platform is claimed to provide significant weight reduction compared to the current generation model which is measured to have a weight of 2030 kg. That’s because the new platform consists of several lightweight materials such as magnesium, carbon fiber, aluminum and steel.
