Ahead of its official debut in the coming months, the next-generation 2018 BMW X3 (G01) has just caught undergoing intensive testing at the Nürburgring circuit, Germany. The new X3 crossover is expected to be the ultimate driving machine with good handling, while retaining its compact design and brilliant look. This is what distinguishes X3 from other BMW crossover models. As the upcoming BMW Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV), the 2018 X3 crossover will also have a lighter weight of around 220 pounds compared to the previous generation models.
The new BMW X3 will come with a much more aggressive and sporty design than the current models. Although this car is covered in heavy camouflage during testing, the 2018 BMW X3 seems to be getting some big changes from the design style side. The German-based automaker will equip it with a large air intake in its front bumper. The new model will also be longer, wider and lighter than the previous generation. However, the latest X3 will ride on BMW CLAR platform with a more rigid chassis.
In order to adjust to the new pedestrian safety rules, the front-end design of the latest BMW X3 is now more upright than the current model. While the rear end design of the back end has a slightly lower roofline. There is also a massive Kidney Grilles signature on the front end with more modern headlamps.
2018 BMW X3 Specs
There are several engine options for the latest generation BMW X3, including a 2.0-liter turbo B48 four-cylinder engine and 3.0-liter B58 turbo inline-six engine that will be available for the new X3 M40i variant. The engine will be paired to an all-wheel drive system that will be available as standard for all models, along with front-wheel drive configurations. Of course, the BMW xDrive system will be available for the upcoming X3 crossovers.
The next-generation 2018 BMW X3 is expected to come with a new exterior design and a more premium cabin. In addition, there are also high-tech features, safety equipment and advanced telematics.
