The 2018 Audi S5 Sportback has been officially revealed and ready to hit the American market in the near future. As a high-performance version of the Audi A5, the new S5 Sportback is claimed to still look very similar to the previous model. However, the German carmaker will still offer the S5 Sportback as a coupe, cabriolet and five-door fastback variant that for the first time will be available in the US. Although the previous S5 Sportback model was never offered in North America because most Americans are considered not to buy a hatchback. The Audi S5 is still utilizing the existing platform with a smart blend between strongest powertrain with a handsome design.
Well in terms of technology and design, the 2018 Audi S5 Sportback is almost similar to the new A5 coupe and will rely on the new Audi MLB Evo platform. This platform is claimed to be much lighter than the previous platform with the support of standard and optional telematics system which is quite stunning, complete with semi-autonomous driving functions. The new Audi S5 Sportback is expected to be one of the best handling and sporty cars in its class. This is thanks to the new MLB Evo platform with precise steering and a superb frame.
Inside the cabin, the latest S5 Sportback interior almost all comes from the Audi A5 coupe with a sleek dashboard and futuristic design, as well as come with two TFT screens. The new model also offers an extra 17-feet cubic cargo space with rear seats-up like the A5 Sportback. There are also four exhaust tips and a lower diffuser panel on the rear end. The display unit in front of the driver can be configured properly to push the speedometer and tachometer into the corner to open space to view large maps.
2018 Audi S5 Sportback Specs
Under its hood, the 2018 Audi S5 Sportback is powered by a 3.0-liter single-turbo DOHC V6 engine capable of spewing out up to 354 horsepower at 6,400 rpm and 369 lb-ft of torque at 1,370 rpm. S5’s single turbo engine is less responsive than the previous six-cylinder supercharged engine, but fortunately there is no turbo lag again on this new engine. That’s thanks to the use of eight-speed automatic transmission offered by Audi on the latest-generation S5 Sportback. Unfortunately, the German automaker is no longer offering a six-speed manual transmission on the S5 Sportback. While the seven-speed dual-clutch gearboxes are now offered on the Audi A5 Sportback.

Therefore, the new Audi S5 Sportback will be similar to its sibling — the latest Audi S4. While the Quattro all-wheel drive system will be a standard configuration on all variants of the A5 and S5 Sportback in the North American market. The 2018 Audi S5 Sportback is claimed to be able to accelerate from 0-62 mph in just 4,7 seconds with top speed reaching up to 155 mph. The perfect blend of the six-cylinder turbo engine with eight-speed automatic transmission that is claimed to be quite smooth and fast. This car is also equipped with Audi’s Sport Differential, which is a mechanical torque-vectoring unit that helps the S5 Sportback to provide nimble handling and responsive cornering.
2018 Audi S5 Sportback Release Date and Price
There’s no official announcement regarding release date, but the 2018 Audi S5 Sportback will officially hit the North American dealerships in the first quarter of 2017. The official price tag is estimated at around $55,000 which may be similar to the Audi S5 coupe price. The new model is aimed to compete head-to-head with its main competitors such as the BMW 440i xDrive Gran Coupe and Mercedes-AMG C43 sedan.
