The Japanese automaker Mazda is rumored to be soon launched the all-new 2017 CX-9 crossover SUV in the North American market. As we all know, the Mazda CX-9 does not receive a lot of changes since its first debut in 2007 and in fact, this SUV just get a facelift in 2013 with a new grille design. Therefore, the current CX-9 is worth mentioning as the old SUV and the next generation model should be launched soon.
According to some leaked info, the 2017 Mazda CX-9 will really get a completely new redesign with evolution of the KODO design language brought by Koeru concept that was introduced at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show some time ago. Of course, it’s interesting to see it rolled out on the highway with a more athletic, sportier and sharper design, as well as better aerodynamics than the current model.
The Mazda Koeru claimed to have a lightweight chassis with a better body rigidity and has the following dimensions: 4,6m long, 1,9m wide, 1,5m high and 2,7m wheelbase. This concept car comes with 21-inch alloy wheels and capable of carrying up to five passengers. However, of course, the production version will come with a seven-seat as the current model.
Speaking of interior, the 2017 Mazda CX-9 will reportedly receive some revisions to the interior design with high quality materials in order to fight against its main competitors such as the Toyota Highlander, Ford Explorer, Honda Pilot and Hyundai Santa Fe. Mazda will also provide some premium touches on its interior like the dashboard elements with stitched leather, brushed aluminum and piano-black inlays. In addition, there are also safety and infotainment features such as blind-spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert and MZD Connect system.
Now we are talking about engine that will most likely get the most significant updates. We heard that the current 3.7L V6 engine would be replaced with a SkyActiv 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Nevertheless, there’s no leaked information about transmission and configurations options that will be offered in the future, either AWD or FWD.
As you know, the 2015 Mazda CX-9 is available in the US market with a 3.7-liter DOHC VVT V6 engine that produces up to 273 horsepower at 6,250 rpm and 270 lb-ft of torque at 4,250 rpm. Power is transferred via a front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive configurations, complete with a 6-speed automatic transmission plus adaptive shift logic and sport-shift mode.
2017 Mazda CX-9 Release Date
Unfortunately, Mazda did not give a signal about official release date of the next-generation CX-9 crossover, but I suspect the 2017 Mazda CX-9 will be officially released in the North American market in autumn 2016. Furthermore, the car is likely to be unveiled at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show next month and expect a lot of detailed information revealed by Mazda.
