The 2017 Acura MDX will soon be officially introduced to the public in the Big Apple. Yup, Acura’s best-selling SUV is rumored to get a redesign in its exterior shape, but may also be just a minor refresh. Because we know that the Acura MDX has received a full redesign as a third generation model in 2014. And even last year, this crossover gets major changes in terms of its technical specifications. So just a minor refresh? It’s not yet clear, but keep reading!
Well, Honda’s luxury division has just revealed a teaser picture of its 2017 MDX crossover. From what I see, this SUV will most likely come with a redesign and should have major changes, instead of just a minor refresh. The new design is expected to be heavily influenced by Acura Precision Concept unveiled at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show earlier this year.
At least for now there’s no official pictures of the 2017 Acura MDX that shows the actual design. However, a teaser image indicates that the new model has a bolder and sharper exterior design compared to the current model. Of course, the muscular design with a new diamond pentagon grille should be included in the list of exterior changes.
Acura said that the key change is more focused on design improvements, adding luxury and comfort features, as well as offer the most advanced powertrain technology. Nevertheless, some spy photos of the 2017 Acura MDX posted on VTEC forums indicates that this SUV will only receive minor refresh at the front end (especially front grille design). Possible changes in the technical specifications is also very little, according to the same leaked info. But it’s still too early to conclude! Because more details are still hiding behind the camouflage.
Speaking of engine spec, the Acura MDX crossover is currently powered by a direct-injected 3.5-liter SOHC i-VTEC V6 engine capable of delivering 290 horsepower at 6,200 rpm and 267 lb-ft of torque at 4,700 rpm, with EPA ratings of 20/27/23 mpg (city/highway/combined). This engine is paired exclusively to the Super Handling All-Wheel Drive System (SH-AWD) and 9-speed automatic gearbox plus Sequential SportShift.
As for the newly redesigned 2017 Acura MDX will probably get some changes in the technical specifications, including a 10-speed automatic transmission which is expected to be available in the future. Output power and torque may not be much different from the current models. But as Acura said that the new powertrain with advanced technology will be offered for this crossover. Perhaps more fuel-efficient powertrain?
There’s no official information about release date for now, but the 2017 Acura MDX is scheduled to be officially unveiled at this month’s New York Auto Show. Sales are expected to begin in summer 2016 in the North American market, so the 2017 MDX release date may be around this summer. The price tag has not been set as well, but the current model hit Acura dealerships with a starting price of $43,015. Expect pricing details for the new MDX crossover will not be much different from the previous model, perhaps around $43,500 for the base model.
