Hyundai has officially unveiled the all-new 2015 Genesis four-door sedan in the Korean domestic market in Seoul before the car will be sold all over the world next year. The Korean automaker says the new model is specifically prepared for consumers who live in Korea, China, Middle East and North America. The first priority is the Korean domestic market, but the Russian and European markets will also receive this car in the future.
The new Genesis gets radical and significant changes compared to the current model, as you can see on its exterior design. The big change is reflected in its design styling that looks more luxurious and modern combined with assertiveness as well as sharp body line that extends from the rear to the front end. It’s thanks to the use of Hyundai’s Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language on the second-gen Genesis sedan. That’s why the new model looks much different from the outgoing model.
One of the most striking exterior changes appears on its front grille design, which adopts the hexagonal single-frame design combined with semi-gloss chrome. Single-frame grille with hexagonal design commonly seen on Audi car designs and Genesis seems inspired from them, I was really surprised to see it.
Nevertheless, Hyundai claims that the new Genesis brings truly modern design philosophy with a premium feel and distinctive exterior styling. In addition, the exterior is also equipped with several new features such as HID bi-functional headlights, LED indicators, fog lights and full LED taillights.
The 2015 Hyundai Genesis is now using a longer wheelbase and shorter overhangs than the previous generation. Overall, the new model has a length of 4,990mm, 1,890mm width and 1,480mm height. While the wheelbase length reaches 3,010mm and shorter overhangs – 845mm for front and 1,135mm for rear. The car ride on standard 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 225/55 R17 tires, but Hyundai also offers 18-inch and 19-inch alloy wheels.
Under the hood, the South Korean-based automaker offers four different engine options for each market. So there will be a difference in terms of engine options between the U.S. and European markets, as well as other markets. First option, the all-new 2015 Genesis is powered by a 3.0-liter Lambda V6 DOHC engine that can produce 257 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 224.2 lb-ft of torque at 5,000 rpm. This 3.0L V6 engine allows the Genesis to sprint from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 8.6 seconds and top speed is limited to just 230 km/h (143 mph).
Next option, this luxury four-door sedan will be equipped with a 3.3-liter Lambda V6 DOHC engine capable of developing up to 282 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 256.1 lb-ft of torque at 5,000 rpm. As for its performance, the 282 HP 3.3L V6 requires at least 7.2 seconds to accelerate from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) before hitting its top speed at 240 km/h (149 mph).
If that’s not enough, you can order a 3.8-liter Lambda V6 DOHC engine delivering 315 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 293 lb-ft of torque at 5,000 rpm. Genesis with this powerful 3.8L V6 engine only takes 6.5 seconds to complete 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) and its top speed is the same as the 3.3L engine – 240 km/h (149 mph).
Last option, the 2015 Hyundai Genesis will come with a 5.0-liter Tau V8 DOHC engine that can spew its maximum output up to 425 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 383 lb-ft of torque at 5,000 rpm. It’s the most powerful engine in the Genesis powertrain lineup, which can accelerate from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in just 5.4 seconds with a top speed up to 240 km/h (149 mph).
All four engine options will be paired to the standard rear-wheel drive configuration and power is sent to the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox. Hyundai only offers a HTRAC all-wheel drive system (AWD) as optional in the Genesis, while the rear-wheel drive (RWD) will be available as standard in all markets.
Unlike the Korean market, the all-new Genesis is expected to arrive in the U.S. market with two different engine options that include a standard 3.8-liter V6 DOHC 24-valve with at least 333 horsepower at 6,400 rpm and 291 lb-ft of torque at 5,100 rpm, as well as an 5.0-liter V8 DOHC 32-valve with a peak output of up to 429 horsepower at 6,400 rpm and 376 lb-ft of torque at 5,000 rpm. Or in other words, the U.S.-spec 2015 Genesis supposedly will still offer the same engine as the previous model.

Compared to the outgoing model, the car is now also get other important upgrades such as the use of ultra high-strength steel materials up to 51.5% (increased by 37.7% from the previous model), new multi-link rear suspension, reduced NVH, revised geometry and improves chassis rigidity. The new model is equipped with four intelligent driving modes that include Eco, Normal, Sport and Snow. While the suspension and brake systems are handled electronically, brake systems benefit from ATCC (Advanced Traction Cornering Control) which improves agility when cornering.
As for safety features, Hyundai has installed several new safety features on the Genesis, including the New Emergency Steer Support, Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Haptic steering warning system, Smart Cruise Control (SCC), Blind Spot Detection with Head-Up Display and Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS). In addition, the new model also gets a new driver’s knee airbag, Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), Around-view monitor and Advanced Smart Parking Assist System (ASPAS).
Inside the cabin, the 2015 Genesis sedan is now adopting an interior with high quality materials such as wood grain and real aluminum on the center console. The cabin space is now more spacious and presents a more luxurious feel than the outgoing model, complete with new interior features such as 9.2-inch HID touchscreen display. The front seats have also been redesigned incorporating new functionality as well as equipped with the new air-pressure pump and controller valve.
2015 Hyundai Genesis Sedan Release Date scheduled for next fall
Speaking about the release date, the all-new 2015 Hyundai Genesis four-door sedan is scheduled to arrive in the North American market next fall or in late 2014. Sales may be set late next year or if it’s too late, is likely to begin in early 2015. But this new model will certainly make its official debut at the 2014 Detroit Motor Show next month.
Official pricing details have not been announced but we expect the price will not be too much different from the outgoing model, probably around $35,500. To remind you, the base 2014 Genesis 3.8 goes on sale in the U.S. market with a starting price of $35,200. Pricing details are expected to be announced in the coming months.
