Honda has quietly launched the eight-passenger 2015 Pilot SUV earlier this month. The Japanese automaker has also introduced a new special edition model (SE) which is positioned between the EX and EX-L trim levels.
The 2015 model year does not get a significant change compared to the previous model; even it hasn’t been completely redesigned. Although the special edition model has made a big difference with the base model.
However, according to some reports, Honda has plans to release the completely redesigned Pilot SUV in 2016. Because the Japanese automaker has redesigned the Acura MDX for the 2014 model year.
The Pilot Special Edition (SE) is equipped with several features that are not offered on the standard model, such as Honda DVD Rear Entertainment System, Sirius XM radio and one-touch-open power moonroof with tilt feature.
In addition, you will also see a sporty pewter gray aluminum alloy-wheels and special SE badging on the 2015 Pilot special edition model. While the standard features for this eight-passenger SUV include integrated Class III trailer hitch, rearview camera and remote entry.
Under the hood, the eight-passenger 2015 Honda Pilot is powered by a 3.5-liter i-VTEC V6 engine that can develop up to 250 horsepower and 253 lb-ft of torque. This 250-horsepower V6 engine is available on all models, both base and special edition models.
Linked to a five-speed automatic transmission, the 3.5-liter V6 engine is offered with standard front-wheel drive set-up and optional all-wheel drive system with Honda’s Variable Torque Management.
In addition, the AWD model has been equipped with a fully-automatic four-wheel drive capability and features a lock mode, which helps for the better torque delivery to the rear wheels.
Speaking of fuel efficiency, the front-wheel drive 2015 Honda Pilot has EPA fuel economy ratings of 18/25/21 mpg (city/highway/combined). While the all-wheel drive models can return 17 mpg in the city, 24 mpg on the highway and 20 mpg combined.
2015 Honda Pilot Release Date and Price
As for the pricing details and release date, the 2015 Pilot SUV is now available in U.S. dealerships and goes on sale with a base MSRP of $33,120, excluding $830 destination charge, according to Honda.
Meanwhile, the new Pilot special edition hit U.S. dealer’s floor with a base price of $33,120 for the front-wheel drive and $34,720 for the all-wheel drive models, not including an $830 destination charge.
