At last month’s Frankfurt Motor Show Honda has announced for the first time some surprising details about the 2015 Civic Type R. Manabu Nishimae who served as President of Honda Motor Europe has spoken in IAA public in a press conference at the time.
Manabu revealed some details such as engine spec would be used in the Euro-spec 2015 Honda Civic Type R and also testing results at the Nurburgring circuit in Germany. The Japanese automaker is really ambitious to put the upcoming Civic Type R as one of the fastest front-wheel drive car at the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
Under its hood, the 2015 Honda Civic Type R is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter direct-injection engine that is claimed to spew up to 280 PS, or about 276 horsepower.
However, this new hot hatch still requires two years of further development before it goes into the production line by the end of next year or in early 2015. Honda spent a week at the Nurburgring circuit along with Honda’s WTCC driver Gabriele Tarquini in order to perform some extensive testing.
Honda said that they wanted to meet the performance target to be the fastest, while lap time of the Civic Type R is almost close to the Nurburgring lap record. Unfortunately, there’s no lap time information that can be posted here.
Speaking about the sale date, Honda has not revealed details about the 2015 Civic Type R release date. However, the full production model is expected to be launched in early 2015 in the European market, but there’s no confirmation for USA.
