Ahead of Tokyo Motor Show in November last year, the 2015 Honda Civic Type R prototype has been officially introduced to the public audience and tested for the second time in Honda’s home race track in Tochigi, Japan. The new Civic Type R has undergone its second testing in prototype form at that time and without using camouflage. In fact, the car body clearly demonstrates Honda’s VTEC and Earth Dreams Technology during testing.
At the same time, Minato-based automaker also officially introduced the latest generation of VTEC Turbo Engine as part of Honda’s Earth Dreams Technology. The VTEC Turbo engine will be offered in three different capacities for each market, including 1.0-liter with three-cylinder, 1.5-liter four-cylinder and 2.0-liter four-cylinder.
Talking about its specs, what we know so far that the 2015 Civic Type R will get a 2.0-liter VTEC Turbo four-cylinder engine featuring direct-injection and is capable of delivering maximum output up to 280 HP. Honda said all VTEC Turbo engines will be equipped with direct-injection, turbocharger and variable valve motion (VTEC technology).
Furthermore, the next-generation VTEC Turbo engine capable of delivering a striking maximum output with dynamic performance, low friction engine, better fuel efficiency and have passed the EURO 6 emission testing. According to the Japanese automaker, the new engine lineup will be offered in various Honda’s future cars along with a 1.6-liter diesel engine featuring hybrid technology.
Update: 2015 Honda Civic Type R Release Date set for next year
The next-generation 2015 Honda Civic Type R will most likely be launched in the European market sometime next year, as said by Honda a few months ago. In addition, they also confirmed that the Civic Type R would be the first Honda models in the European market which will be equipped with the latest generation of VTEC Turbo engine and have passed the EURO 6 emission test.
So far, we don’t know the release date for the U.S. market and we are also still wonder if Honda has plans to bring the Civic Type R to the U.S. market or even not at all. Because they only confirmed for the European market so far.
The high-performance sports hatchback is currently still in the development stage and continues to undergo various tests both in Europe and in Japan. The next-gen Civic Type R prototype has been tested for the first time by Gabriele Tarquini (Honda WTCC drivers) at the famous Nurburgring race track in Germany a few months ago.
