The Detroit automaker has confirmed that the company is currently developing a new engine specs “2.3-liter four-cylinder gasoline” for the 2015 Ford Mustang, which will be offered only for the European market.
According to Ford, this small four-cylinder gasoline engine will be based on the 2.0L turbocharged EcoBoost engine, which basically has been offered on the Focus ST hatchback.
The automaker told us that the 2.3L engine is more fuel efficient and have lower exhaust emissions than the V8 engine. Furthermore, the Euro-spec 2015 Mustang with this new engine capable of developing up to 300 horsepower (224 kW/304 PS), according to a source within Ford Motor Company.
This indicates that the fuel-efficient engine gets an increase in output up to 48 horsepower (36 kW) from the previous generation. As we know, the current engine can deliver at least 252 horsepower (188 kW/255 PS).
Unfortunately, this new 2.3L engine will not be available for the U.S.-spec models and will only be offered for the European customers. Other reason, Ford has plans to remove the V8 engine option for the European market, because the V8 version will make its tax to be higher than the 2.3L variant.
Speaking about the launch date, the 2015 Ford Mustang release date is expected to be revealed closer to the early next year or if it’s delayed, likely to be announced in the third quarter of 2014. Just hope!
