Ford has plans to revise and update the 2015 Focus ST hatchback to strengthen its position in the hot hatch segment in the North American market. However, it’s only a minor update and Ford is not possible to redesign their flagship hatchback for the 2015 model year. This is reinforced by the fact that the Focus ST prototype has undergone its first test two months ago at the famous Nurburgring race track in Germany.
The exterior will most likely get minor changes that include a new bumper design, revised headlights and updated front grille design. The most notable exterior changes on the new Focus ST will be visible on the front grille and overall styling design that will have similarities with the all-new 2015 Ford Mustang and 2014 Fusion sedan. This means that the new model will borrow some styling elements from the next-gen Mustang.
Unfortunately, we don’t have enough information about the interior but some reports indicate that the 2015 Ford Focus ST will also receive minor changes in its interior. The Detroit automaker is expected to provide some revisions and updates to the cabin area. The interior features will also get a bit touch update such center console areas.
Talking about the engine lineup, our sources say that there is no change in the engine spec and you will still see the same engine setup as the current ST models. But the engine output may be increased from 252 horsepower to about 260 horsepower, even though we know it’s still a rumor and Ford currently does not provide confirmation about the engine setup.
As we all know, the 2014 Ford Focus ST is powered by a 2.0-liter GTDI EcoBoost 4-cylinder engine capable of developing up to 252 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 270 lb-ft of torque at 2,500 rpm. The powerful 2.0L EcoBoost turbo engine mated to a standard six-speed manual gearbox and the car only takes 5.9 seconds to sprint from 0-62 mph before hitting its top speed at 155 mph. The EPA estimated fuel economy is rated at 23 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway.
2015 Ford Focus ST Release Date is scheduled for the third quarter 2014
There’s no official word from the Ford Motor Company about the release schedule, at least for now. However, we predict that the 2015 Ford Focus ST is likely to be released in the North American market in the third quarter of next year. In addition, this new model will also be officially introduced at the 2014 Detroit Motor Show early next year with the regular Focus hatchback.
As for the estimated price, the new Focus ST is expected to go on sale late next year with a price tag that is not much different from the current ST models. As a reminder, the 2014 Focus ST goes on sale in U.S. dealerships with a base price of $23,625 (Starting MSRP).
