2015 Ford Fiesta RS in the works! Will get a 1.6-liter turbo with 230 HP
Apparently, Ford secretly had plans to bring the high-performance Fiesta RS to the production line as a 2015 model and the car is currently in the development stage. A source within Ford Motor Company has told Auto Express that the Fiesta RS is still under serious consideration as a 2015 product plans, but they are currently researching market trends before bringing this super hot hatch to the production line.
To refresh your memory, the Fiesta RS has been introduced for the first time as a concept version at the 2004 Geneva Motor Show, but the Dearborn automaker has never brought the Fiesta RS in the form of a full production model until now. Maybe this case is similar to the Ford Bronco Concept, which until now has not been entered into the production line.
Now, the Fiesta hatchback has become Ford’s best-selling model in the UK since 2009, followed by the Ford Focus and Vauxhall Corsa hatchback. So it’s worth seeing the high-performance RS version hit the European market, especially in the UK.
However, Ford will not rush to release the high-performance RS version, given the current facelifted Fiesta is still selling well in the UK market. Auto Express recently said that the Fiesta RS would most likely be launched at the end of the car’s lifecycle.
The 2015 Ford Fiesta RS will be developed alongside the upcoming Focus RS model and the car will get greater power output than the standard Fiesta models, as the hallmark of a high-performance RS models. In terms of design, the car reportedly will look much different from the regular version and also will adopt lightweight materials in all aspects in order to improve its performance.
The hottest RS version will be equipped with several high-performance equipment when the car hit a dealership floor, including an aggressive body kit, limited-slip differential, sport-tuned suspension and exclusive larger brakes. Inside the cabin, the new Fiesta RS will reportedly have a racing-style seats, stripped-out cabin and lightweight interior materials. In addition, the RS models will also greatly inspired by the Ford Fiesta RS WRC car.
Under the hood, the 2015 Ford Fiesta RS will most likely be powered by a turbocharged 1.6-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine that can deliver more than 230 horsepower. This small-capacity 1.6L turbo engine will basically taken from the Fiesta ST, but Ford will increase its power output from 179 horsepower to 230 horsepower.
As we know, the Euro-spec Fiesta ST offers a maximum output at least 179 horsepower (182 PS/132 kW) at 5,700 rpm and 214 lb-ft of torque (290 Nm) at 1,600 rpm; this allows the car to sprint from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 6.9 seconds before hitting a top speed of 139 mph (224 km/h). While the U.S.-spec models can develop up to 197 horsepower (200 PS/147 kW) at 6,000 rpm and 202 lb-ft of torque (273,5 Nm) at 4,200 rpm.
2015 Ford Fiesta RS Release Date possibilities are set for early next year
Speaking about the release date, the high-performance Fiesta RS will most likely be released in around 2015, probably early next year. However, as we’ve said above, the Dearborn-based automaker is not rushed to launch the RS model, both in Europe and in the U.S. market. As for price estimates, the 2015 Fiesta RS is expected to go on sale in the UK with a price tag of $23,000 or around $37,715 for the United States.
