Ford could not stand watching his rival GM have updated their full-size SUVs for the 2015 model year. The Dearborn-based automaker certainly has prepared a serious contender for the 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban when two new models hit the U.S. market next year. General Motors must not forget the upcoming Expedition models as its Tahoe and Suburban rivals.
The new Expedition has undergone various intensive testing in the form of a full-size SUV prototype both in Michigan and in other locations. Some reports indicate that the 2015 Ford Expedition will get some important changes and redesign for next year’s model, although SUVs may not be fully redesigned. Some changes, revisions and prominent updates will be seen on its exterior and interior design.
Outside, the redesigned 2015 Expedition will get a striking change on the front side, where its front grille design will be wider and inspired by the Ford F-150 and Super Duty. While the front fascia designs will reportedly be more upright than the outgoing model. Other updates will be visible in the rear, where the new model is likely to adopt larger exhaust pipe than the current model.
Inside the cabin, the interior layout has been revised and refined, as well as adopting more modern designs like the center stack with a silver lining. Not only that, the interior will also be equipped with some new equipment which include a redesigned steering wheel, updated instrument cluster design and revised stop-start system.

The new model will still offer storage space at the top of the dashboard, but the gear knob is still adopting an old design and there are no buttons with touch-sensitive controls. Furthermore, the interior is also likely to benefit from the use of new features such as MyFord Touch system, larger touchscreen display and new push button start with hands-free keyless entry.
Under the hood, the 2015 Ford Expedition will most likely be powered by a 3.5-liter Twin-Turbo V6 EcoBoost engine that can deliver up to 365 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and 420 lb-ft of torque at 2,500 rpm. This EcoBoost engine will basically taken from the 2014 Ford F-150 that has been proven to be more powerful and more fuel efficient than the old V8 engine.
The fuel efficiency factor will certainly be a consideration for Ford to use this engine. It has been well proven, the 3.5-liter V6 EcoBoost engine with rear-wheel drive configuration has EPA ratings of 16/22/18 mpg (city/highway/combined), while the Ford F-150 four-wheel drive have a fuel economy ratings of 15/21/17 mpg (city/highway/combined).
It also indicates that the 3.5L V6 EcoBoost engine will replace the old 5.4-liter SOHC V8 engine that has been offered in the previous Expedition models. As we know, the 2014 Expedition is powered by a 5.4-liter V8 that only offers 310 HP at 5,100 rpm and 365 lb-ft of torque at 3,600 rpm, with a EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings of 14/20/16 mpg (city/highway/combined) for rear-wheel drive models (non-EL and EL 4×2). While the four-wheel drive models (non-EL and EL 4×4) have EPA ratings of 13/18/15 mpg (city/highway/combined).
The redesigned Expedition full-size SUV will be offered in two drive configurations, including a standard rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive as optional. While the EcoBoost V6 engine will be equipped with a six-speed automatic gearbox as standard on all variants when this new SUV goes on sale next year.
2015 Ford Expedition Release Date scheduled for next spring
Speaking of release dates, the 2015 Ford Expedition and Expedition EL will most likely be launched in the U.S. market next spring with sales starting late next year or in early 2015. As for the price, this new model is expected to go on sale with a price tag that is not much different from the 2014 Expedition that starts at $41,635. We predict the new Expedition SUV will start around $42,000; maybe the price is quite reasonable.
