The all-new 2014 BMW M4 Convertible has finally been officially revealed and is scheduled to make its public debut at this month’s New York Auto Show in the Big Apple. The German luxury automaker also announced pricing details, release date and detailed specifications of its new M4 Convertible.
The new model looks a little different from its siblings “M4 Coupe” that has been launched late last year, because you can feel the wind blowing towards your hair, although the exterior design is almost the same. The retractable hard top features can be lowered in just 20 seconds when the car is running at speeds up to 11 mph.
Just like the M4 coupe, BMW also uses lightweight materials on the new M4 convertible, as can be found in the aluminum front fenders, hood, CFRP drive shaft and strut brace. Looking into the cabin area, the interior design looks almost identical to its coupe version. Even the convertible version also featuring sport seats, leather-wrapped sport steering wheel, M-gearshift, M-branded sill plates and contrast stitching.
Under the hood, the 2015 BMW M4 Convertible is powered by a TwinPower Turbo 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine that can develop up to 425 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque. As we know, this is the same engine that can be found on the M4 Coupe. This twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter engine will be available with either a six-speed manual or seven-speed M-DCT gearbox, depending on your choice.
Speaking about the performance figures, the car can accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 4.2 seconds when equipped with the seven-speed M-DCT gearbox. But the car will need at least 4.4 seconds to complete 0-60 mph acceleration when equipped with a six-speed manual gearbox. However, top speed will remain electronically limited to just 155 mph.
BMW offers several high-performance equipment on the M4 convertible which includes Active M Differential, M-tuned steering system and M compound brakes. While the optional equipment includes Adaptive M suspension with three different modes – COMFORT, SPORT and SPORT+ modes, plus M carbon ceramic brakes featuring gold calipers.
