2014 Porsche Macan Review, Specs & Price

After numerous rumors and leaked pictures hit the internet, the 2014 Porsche Macan has finally made its public debut this month at the Los Angeles Auto Show and is scheduled to go on sale next year. The German-based automaker has also announced the full specification details of its Macan crossover. So, we will present to you a review about the price and specs.

This new SUV will be offered in three models options with three different engines when it goes on sale next year, including the base model “S”, S Diesel and Turbo. The entry-level Porsche Macan S features a Twin-Turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine mated to a seven-speed double-clutch automatic gearbox (PDK). This engine is capable of producing up to 340 horsepower, so it allows this SUV to sprint from 0-62 mph in 5.4 seconds and reaches a top speed of 158 mph.

The fuel consumption is expected to reach around 8.7 – 9.0 liters/100 km with CO2 emissions ranging from 204 – 212 g/km. Porsche also offers the Sport Chrono package as an optional package on the entry-level model, which will offer advantages in terms of acceleration – 0-62 mph will be completed within 5.2 seconds.

Next, Porsche offers a 3.0-liter V6 turbo diesel engine in the 2014 Macan S Diesel model with a maximum output of 258 horsepower. The diesel version can accelerate from 0-62 mph in 6.3 seconds before hitting its top speed of 143 mph. This engine is also backed by a standard 7-speed PDK gearbox.

If the car is equipped with the Sport Chrono package, it can sprint from 0-62 mph in 6.1 seconds. Porsche says combined fuel consumption of the S Diesel model can achieve between 6.1 – 6.3 liters/100 km with CO2 emissions ranging from 159 – 164 g/km.

Last engine options available for the range-topping model “Macan Turbo” – powered by a 3.6-liter Biturbo V6 engine connected to a seven-speed PDK automatic gearbox, which is able to develop up to 400 horsepower. Using this twin-turbo engine, the new Macan crossover can accelerate from 0-62 mph in 4.8 seconds before hitting a top speed of 165 mph.

The optional Sport Chrono package once again offer benefits in terms of acceleration and superior 0.2 seconds compared to the regular model. It allows the Macan Turbo to complete 0-62 mph in 4.6 seconds. Meanwhile, the combined fuel consumption can reach about 8.9 – 9.2 liters/100 km and 11.5 to 11.8 liters/100 km for the urban fuel consumption, CO2 emissions ranging from 208 – 216 g/km.

In addition to the above three engine options, Porsche will reportedly offer a new four-cylinder engine on the 2014 Macan crossover in the future. The 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo engine with 280 horsepower will only be offered on the base model, while the Macan S Diesel will also get a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo diesel engine.

The 2014 model year has the following overall dimensions: 4699mm length, 1923mm width and 1624mm height. The crossover is equipped with several standard equipment such as front suspension with double wishbone set-up and rear suspension adopts a multi-link set-up.

The rear suspension is powered by a variable damping control and electro-mechanical steering system. Porsche also offers the optional air suspension and improve the software aspect and geometry in order to ensure that the Macan could be a crossover with the most agile handling in its class.

The standard 18-inch alloy wheels offered on the base and diesel models, with the front tire size 235/60 R18 and 255/55 R18 for the rear. While the Turbo variant is equipped with 19-inch alloy wheels featuring 235/55 R19 front and 255/50 R19 rear tires. The 21-inch wheels are also available, but it’s only as optional.

Talking about the price and release date, the 2014 Porsche Macan is scheduled to go on sale in the European markets in April 2014, specifically for the UK and German dealers. The entry-level model “S” and S Diesel will go on sale in UK dealers at a price of £43,300 (GBP), while the Macan Turbo is priced at £59,300 (GBP).

On the German domestic market, the new Macan SUV will go on sale with a base price of €57,930 (Euro) for the “S” and S Diesel models. While the Turbo models will hit German dealerships with a price tag of €79,826 (Euro) and all prices include VAT. Unfortunately we don’t have enough information for the U.S. market, especially regarding the price and release date scheduled for the U.S.-spec models.
