If we’re talking about the next-gen 2014 Mazda MX-5 Miata, you will find a myriad of leaked information on the Internet regarding the upcoming roadster from the Japanese automaker. Mazda, however, will work together with the Italian based automaker Alfa Romeo in order to build their new roadster models.
A strong rumor mentions that the next-generation MX-5 roadster will adopt a SkyActiv-G 1.6-liter engine which is very good for developing a peak power output up to 130 HP, while its peak torque information is still kept confidential. The SkyActiv gasoline engine featuring naturally-aspirated, instead of turbocharged.
Mazda SkyActiv diesel engine is also likely to be available when this roadster goes on sale globally. Although Japanese companies haven’t been confirmed, but other rumors suggest that the next-gen MX-5 will also carry a SkyActiv-D engine (diesel) and is currently still considered, as well as look at the long-term trend for diesel engines in the global market.
On the other hand, Alfa Romeo is secretly developing a 1.4-liter turbo gasoline engine with a total output of 120 HP special for the 2014 Alfa Romeo Spider. However, the high-performance MultiAir engine is also likely to be available in the future and offer up to 296 HP when the engine mounted on the new roadster.
Both automakers Mazda and Alfa Romeo has developed two different gearboxes for their roadster, including a six-speed manual gearbox as standard equipment on the cars and six-speed automatic gearbox that will come only as optional. Last option will offer steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters.
There’s no word on an official announcement regarding its release date at this time, but we suspect that the 2014 Mazda MX-5 Miata Release Date is scheduled for late this year or maybe early next year. And it could be in mid-2014 as the launch date of the new 2014 Mazda3 hatchback which were held simultaneously in several countries last month.
