The redesigned 2014 BMW X5 has been officially revealed and offers a variety of significant updates on a few specific sectors. The exterior and interior design has received quite exciting changes for the 2014 model year. As for its engine, BMW has also made important revisions in order to provide the best performance and better fuel efficiency than the previous models.
Outside, the new model gets some significant changes with some interesting touches on its exterior design, including adding a new aerodynamic bumpers, unique grille and optional adaptive LED headlights. In order to improve its exterior design, BMW put some special features such as, air breathers, air curtains and rear window with aero blades.
As for the interior, the 2014 BMW X5 is now using high-quality materials and gets luxurious touch in its interior, as well as a more spacious cabin than last year’s model. Some interior features that worth to be said is standard automatic tailgate, 650-1,870L boot capacity, and 40:20:40 split/folding rear seat backrest. In addition, there are also gloss black accents, poplar grain wood trim and aluminum hexagon.
According to the BMW official press release, the new X5 crossover is offered in three variants options that include xDrive50i, xDrive30d and M50d. The first option is available with gasoline engines, while the second and the last option will be offered with a diesel engine. However, all engine options will come with an eight-speed automatic transmission, complete with proactive driving assistant and auto start-stop, as well as mated to an all-wheel drive configuration.
Under the hood, the 2014 BMW X5 xDrive50i is powered by a direct-injection 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine capable of spitting out up to 450 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque. This gasoline engine can push the car to accelerate from 0-62 mph in just 5.0 seconds and has a top speed of 155 mph. Meanwhile, the fuel consumption is rated at 10,4-10,5L/100 km (26,9-27,2 mpg) with CO2 emissions reach 242-244 g/km.
As for the first diesel option, the refreshed X5 xDrive30d is equipped with a direct-injection 3.0-liter common-rail diesel engine that uses inline six-cylinder configuration, and is also powered by a turbocharger. While for its maximum output, the diesel engine is capable of delivering at least 258 horsepower and 413 lb-ft of torque.
By using the same gearbox, the xDrive30d variant can sprint from 0-62 mph in 6.9 seconds with its top speed reaches 143 mph. Meanwhile, the fuel efficiency is rated at 6.2L/100 km (45,6 mpg) with CO2 emissions of 162-164 g/km.
The latter option comes with a more powerful diesel version in the 2014 BMW X5 M50d and you will see the Twin-Power 3.0-liter three-turbocharger diesel engine capable of providing up to 381 horsepower and 546 lb-ft of torque.
The last diesel engine option allowing the new X5 crossover to accelerate from 0-62 mph in just 5.3 seconds before reaching its top speed at 155 mph. Meanwhile, the average fuel consumption rated at 6.7L/100 km (42.2 mpg) and has CO2 emissions of 177 g/km.
The German-based automaker has confirmed about the 2014 BMW X5 release date. The new crossover will be officially released later this year and will most likely be available in U.S. dealerships in early 2014. However, there’s no word on pricing at this time and you can look for the official pricing information when the new model was launched at the end of 2013.
