2014 Audi Sport Quattro Concept is Production Ready: What do you think?

Back in 1984, you will remember when the Audi Sport Quattro was introduced for the first time to the world public and again in 2010 a new concept has emerged that reportedly ready for production. We emphasize that it is a rumor and the fact is the Audi Sport Quattro never brought to the production line until now, even though it’s only limited production.

Audi initially planned to build a limited production model up to 200-500 units, but the plan was canceled in 2012, no one knows what the real reason to suspend their projects.

Now, nearly three years after introduction of the 2010 Audi Quattro Two-Door Coupe Concept, the German-based automaker once again surprises us with their plans to introduce the new Sport Quattro concept at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show starting this week. However, this car is a real improvement and evolution of the 2010 Quattro concept that was introduced at the Paris Motor Show, almost three years ago.

Look at its exterior design, the 2014 Audi Sport Quattro adopt a new bright yellow color scheme and huge hexagonal front-grille that looks similar to the previous concept. However, some improvements have been done such as redesigned alloy wheels and revised taillights as well as larger exhaust pipes. But the air outlet design is still in the same place on the right side of the hood, not revised.

Under the hood, you can see a Twin-Turbo 4.0-liter V8 TFSI engine mated to an electric motor and an 8-speed tiptronic gearbox. The electric motor is mounted in the rear and powered by a lithium-ion battery with liquid-cooled and has a capacity of up to 14,1 kWh. The V8 engine capable of spewing its peak output up to 560 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque, while the electric motor will assist by providing additional output up to 150 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque.

So, the new Sport Quattro will have a combined maximum output up to 700 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque which is claimed to be very helpful when sprint from 0-62 mph in just 3.7 seconds and hit its top speed at 189,52 mph. In electric power mode, the car can travel up to 50 km or about 31 miles.

The average fuel consumption is rated at 94 mpg U.S. or around 2.5-liters per 100 km and has CO2 emissions of just 59 g/km, thanks to the use of start-stop system and cylinder-on-demand technology (COD). Regardless of the technical engine specs, this new concept gets some special touches such as aggressive LED headlights, 21-inch alloy wheels with 285/30 R21 tires and revised rear spoiler.

For the braking system, this car utilizing a carbon-fiber ceramic brake discs, while the use of aluminum material can be seen on the doors and fenders. There’s also CFRP material (Carbon-Fiber Reinforced Polymer) as the base material to make the roof, rear hatch and engine hood.
